Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts
The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is an art school and museum spanning not one, but two historic buildings – the 1876 Landmark Building and the adjacent 1916 Hamilton Building. The Landmark Building, designed by renowned Philadelphia architects Frank Furness and George Hewitt, is the first structure in the U.S. specifically designed for fine arts instruction and exhibition, and is considered one the finest examples of late Victorian architecture.
Since its conception, the historic Landmark Building was maintained, but not altered from the original function or architectural condition. When our team was tapped for the master plan and subsequent renovation, we translated Victorian ideals into the 21st century. Now, the academy is ready to accommodate the ever-growing program within the fixed site, while preserving PAFA’s historic charm.
