91ÌƲ®»¢|RDC’s operational design prioritizes firefighter wellness and team building through the building’s organization and visual transparency. High-roof portals on the front and back protect welcoming porches and shared staff spaces. Public-artist designed mosaic glass tile murals depict local landmarks alongside the fire station’s history within the community it serves.
The facility then adds a health-care innovation; space provisions for a community health clinic, model that allows residents to come to the fire station for basic health care services. The future fully integrated clinic features an independent front door, indoor/outdoor waiting area, and the ability to serve the community without interrupting fire station operations.
Site constraints called for creative solutions to address adjacent residential uses, railroad tracks, and a narrow site configuration complicating the drive-through apparatus approach. The final design asserts a confident and welcoming civic public safety identity for the Alameda County Fire Department.
