Founded in 1893, George School found itself in need of modern athletic facilities to enhance the experience for competitors and patrons alike. Our design for the 100,000-SF Athletic Center creates a state-of-the-art facility that complements the 1893 charm of the rest of the campus. It is situated across the street from the new M.D. Anderson Library and Learning Commons and diagonally across the street from the Quaker Meeting House, the school’s signature building. Features include a performance gym, double practice gym, fitness center, 8-lane, 25-yard pool, and locker rooms with support facilities. Construction was meticulously coordinated to minimize disruption to existing programs.
George School is a model for school sustainability, and ecological thinking has been a part of its history for more than a century. Sustainable energy practices have been in place since the 1980s, and the school remains dedicated to finding new ways to incorporate sustainability across its campus. To achieve these goals, the new Athletic Center received LEED Certification for sustainable design. 91ÌƲ®»¢ provided architectural and planning services.
