The existing Gwinnett County Justice and Administration Center has served the County and the court system since 1988. The current facility holds both court and county government functions, including superior, state, and magistrate functions. The design for the five-story courthouse addition provides much-needed growth space for the superior court by adding eight new trial courtrooms and support space for judicial officers and support staff.
The new building addition includes a 195,623-SF courthouse addition and 1,500-car parking deck. On the main entry level, a new consolidated jury assembly space serves the entire campus featuring best practices in courts planning by providing amenities for jurors such as quiet rooms and a technology bar. Jurors are assigned parking areas in the new parking deck to provide quick and weather-free access to the new jury assembly room. The addition is connected to the existing facility by a pair of enclosed pedestrian bridges to the public and private circulation systems. Future growth beyond this initial phase is provided by shell space on the two upper floors of the addition for future courtrooms or office functions.
The project was developed in partnership with Pieper O’Brien Herr Architects and Gilbane Construction.
