Decarbonizing the Grid
Explore the highlights of our partnership’s two dozen projects. Note: all megawatts listed are DC capacities.
Agave & Sun Streams Solar Plants
40 miles west of Phoenix, Arlington, Arizona, has become a hotbed for solar energy production. Agave’s 190 megawatts on 1,400 acres contribute to Arizona Public Service’s commitment to 100% carbon-free electricity by 2050. The energy produced avoids 194,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually. Nearby, the award-winning Sun Streams 2 solar plant will deliver 200MW for its owner, who is also developing additional projects in the area totaling almost a gigawatt of energy. 91ÌƲ®»¢ provided structural engineering.
Bighorn & Sun Mountain Solar Plants
The Colorado Energy Plan targets a 55% renewable energy powered grid by 2026. Sun Mountain and Bighorn Solar support this target with almost 600 megawatts of solar energy on 1,800 acres in Pueblo, Colorado. This represents over 800,000 metric tons of carbon emissions avoided compared to equivalent coal-powered energy production. 91ÌƲ®»¢ provided structural engineering services for both plants, as well as electrical engineering for Bighorn.
Dodge Flat Solar Energy Center
One of six solar projects in Nevada’s 2018 Integrated Resource Plan, Dodge Flat combines 200 megawatts of capacity with 50 megawatts of battery energy storage, improving grid reliability and efficiency. 91ÌƲ®»¢ provided structural engineering.
Briar Creek
The 150-megawatt Briar Creek solar farm delivers affordable electricity to the Dallas Fort Worth area in an innovative contract structure involving Lightsource bp, Nephilia Climate, and the Capital Solutions unit of Allianz Global. The project not only avoids 223,000 metrics tons of carbon emissions compared to coal-powered energy, it’s also an example of multi-use solar. Farmers lease their land for solar installation, while retaining rights as grazing partners. Additional 91ÌƲ®»¢ solar projects with McCarthy Building Companies in Texas include Bright Arrow, Cattlemen, Horizon, and more.
