Sam Houston State University, as a new NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) member of Conference USA, envisions a redefined and elevated game day experience at Bowers Stadium that reflects the aspirations of its Bearkat community and the university’s commitment to excellence in collegiate athletics.

Our teams design, in collaboration with Page, replaces the stadium’s nearly 40-year-old press box with a modern five-level structure. This reshapes the west side of the stadium with a striking new entrance façade that seamlessly integrates aesthetics and functionality. The project reimagines the fan experience with premium seating options, including luxury suites and a dual-level club lounge, offering unparalleled comfort and engagement. A modern media level enhances coverage for television, radio, and print, while updated concessions, restrooms, and a revitalized concourse create a welcoming atmosphere for all patrons. These thoughtful updates not only elevate the game day experience but also transform the facility into a versatile, multi-use venue year-round.

The project encompasses a 62,500-SF replacement of the existing press box, featuring approximately 44,000 SF of enclosed space and 18,500 SF of exterior areas, including 14,500 SF of covered areas. The modern five-level structure includes a main lobby, ticketing office, and apparel shop on the ground level, with a grand public stairway access to the concourse level featuring public restrooms and concessions. Expanded meeting and gathering spaces throughout the facility enable year-round use, supporting university and community events. The double-height club level offers catering services and outdoor socializing options, while also functioning as a state-of-the-art dining facility for student-athletes, supporting recruitment and development efforts. On the level above, 12 luxury suites overlook the action, creating an immersive experience for fans and guests. The press level accommodates a film deck, control room, gameday operations, coaches’ suites, and media areas, including a visiting athletic director’s suite. Our team provided architecture, interiors, and engineering services.
